Contains letters from Crescent Silver Company agents in Bakerville, Clear Creek Co., Colo. reporting to the Executive Committee
in Cincinnati. 78 lengthy letters, chiefly from William Mendenhall, give a detailed picture of the everyday workings of the
mines, and his duties as accountant and agent. Letters recount the trials of weather, equipment, and frontier intrigue: conflicts
between Mendenhall and other employees such as Theo. H. Lowe and E.W. Thayer, Lowe's attempt to take the mine by force, lawsuits,
Mendenhall's continued defense of his position and actions to the Board of Directors, etc. Mendenhall requests clear instructions
from the Committee, and requests funds to pay continuing Company debts in Georgetown and workers' back salaries. Letters also
contain detailed analyses of financial reports and receipts. Letters from T.H. Lowe and E.W. Thayer pertaining to their appointments
as agents are also included.
Financial records include account summaries, receipts from vendors, receipts and vouchers from the Company, and checks, some
of which have been described in detail in the letters. Also contains legal documents, including contracts, lawsuits, agreements,
leases, etc., a few notes from meetings of the Executive Committee, and ballots from their elections.

The Crescent Silver Company, also known as the Crescent Silver Mining Company, was based in Cinncinnati, Ohio and operated
mines in Colorado. Title to the company's property was sold due to financial difficulties in 1874 to Charles Mendenhall (formerly
president of the Crescent Silver Co.) who created the Stevens Mining Company to mine this property. William Mendenhall served
as agent for the Crescent Silver Co, and later with his uncle Cyrus Mendenhall was agent for the Stevens Mining Company. cf.
